What is PTSD?
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event.
Symptoms can vary from person to person and may include:
Unwanted or distressing memories of a traumatic event
Nightmares
Flashbacks
Avoiding people, places, conversations, or situations that are reminders of the trauma
Feeling constantly alert or “on edge”
Difficulty sleeping
Irritability or angry outbursts
Difficulty concentrating
Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected
Loss of interest in activities
Feelings of guilt, fear, or hopelessness
For some people, these symptoms improve over time. For others, PTSD symptoms can continue for months or years and significantly interfere with everyday life.
