Adults with Malnutrition Study
Exploring the Opportunity for Better Health
Malnutrition affects over a billion people of all ages, all over the globe. It is defined by an imbalance (either too much or too little) food or diets lacking essential nutrients. In our aging population, we see unique risk factors for malnutrition emerge including loss of appetite, changing taste and smell, decreased mobility affecting access to food, physiological changes, among many others.
What Is The Malnutrition Study?
As we age, changes in appetite and other factors can make it difficult to get enough nutrition. People who are malnourished may notice unintended weight loss and feel tired or weak. Malnutrition also increases your risk of severe illness, infection, and hospitalization. That is why it is so important to find ways to maintain a healthy diet and weight.

The Adults with Malnutrition Study
- Our medical experts are conducting a new research study on Alzheimer’s dementia in southwest Florida. We reimburse volunteers who take part in our studies for their travel and time expenses. Research study volunteers are divided into groups that will receive either the investigational medicine or a placebo. A potential volunteer must meet the following requirements to be eligible for this agitation study:
- Aged between 60 and 90 years old
- Living Independently and ambulatory
- Weigh at least 88 pounds and have a BMI of <25
- Have adequate access to food

Malnutrition--Prevention and Treatment
The appropriate prevention and treatment for malnutrition will depend on many factors. For people between the ages of 60 and 90, changes in the brain can impact energy balance, appetite, and body weight. This study, sponsored by Pfizer, investigates the impact of a novel treatment to increase appetite, food intake, and body weight for people with unintended weight loss. The results of this study will inform development of new potential therapies for people at risk of malnutrition.
